Danny (Mr Sheffield Wednesday FC) is one of the founder members of GB, so was there since its conception in 1986. Therefore, he has a special reason for celebrating the company’s 25th anniversary in earnest!
Originally king of despatching orders from the warehouse, he now guides the Export Sales team to continually increase the overseas turnover and keep the next generation of order dispatchers busy.
Danny has taken our international sales to another level by working closely with his Sales manager of 15 years Gary Hales. Between them they have grown the business by constantly adding new partners in territories to what is already a strong portfolio of export customers. Visiting the customers and the territories they work in has been a key part of building the win-win relationships which have become so fruitful over the years. However, everyone at GB remains convinced that it’s just an excuse to jet off on “yet another foreign jolly!”
Danny is the proud father of two teenage boys (tough times indeed!), and is regularly exasperated by his two exuberant Boxer dogs “Billy & Henry” who are both red and white with white socks... strange as his favourite football team play in blue and white!
Danny’s love of the beautiful game also extends to giving up lots of his spare time coaching a junior (Under 14) football team, Brunsmeer Athletic AFC, who have been established for over 40 years! This qualifies Danny to wear the coach's track suit with the initials “DW” proudly displayed on it!

Gary (Coventry City/Manchester United/Sheffield FC ) is a football tart. Wherever he can go to see a decent match, he will! A lover of wine, women and song (especially ridiculous ones) Gary looks after the day to day management of the worldwide key account customers as well as giving support and direction to his fellow sales personnel.
With 15 years of experience and knowledge of all export procedures and enquiries, Gary ensures a focused and professional service to the worldwide export customers. His sales skills and rapport with customers has ensured continuous growth in sales of our product range.
Gary focuses his attentions on our key account customers offering up his vast experience on best-selling titles and making sure customers never miss out on a sure fire hit.
Gary likes Oasis very much. And beer. And food. He is a former beer-belly, but is now reformed as he regularly visits the gym. Gary likes to boast of his only achievement in life which was doing a parachute jump, but he’s drunk so much since then he can’t remember when it was, or why he did it. Gary has certainly grown up in the past 12 months and now lives out in the countryside with his partner Angie and 2011 will be a major change as baby Hales will be coming at end of April.

Kat – an enigma or a nutter? From Lodz in central Poland, she is our Export Sales Co-ordinator – now looking after new business and new enquiries, looking after Eastern European customers and sales support. Well qualified, Kat has a degree in International Studies.
Since starting with GB, Kat’s changed quite a bit, her new credentials are as follows:
Baby Amelia (aka ‘Mini Kat’) = quantity 1
Young and gorgeous British hubby = quantity 1
Own house and toaster = quantity 1 (EACH!)
No longer 30 – it’s called 30...ish now
After 4 years of taking lessons (!) she finally passed her driving test and is now causing chaos on the roads of Sheffield.
She's in love with Paris (very clichéd but she can’t help herself.)
Still loves whisky, but can no longer be challenged due to the lack of practice.
Still no choice but to support Sheffield Wednesday.
Kat’s favourite things NOW include: chillaxing with her family, PEACE AND QUIET, all night sleep, Gossip Girl, more sleep, a cup of tea and a book in peace and quiet, sleep, and her bed. Anyone would think she doesn’t get enough sleep, or something...
However, some things never change. In Kat’s own words she’s still “A stubborn devil with a bit of attitude. I like my little extremes in life and there's no place for greys for me - it's either black or white.” |

Liz joined GB in the summer of 2010 to support Danny and Gary with all elements of Export sales, looking after export key accounts from all over the world and - if she’s a good girl - hopefully getting to visit some of them too! Her main responsibilities are keeping clients up to date with all of GB eye's product range and titles that are available to them, providing a point of contact for any and all questions and informing them of latest trends, best sellers and best offers for their interests. We have over 350 Export customers so maintaining contact with everyone is her main challenge!
After completing a degree in Media Communications at Lincoln University in 2003, she put on her back pack and ventured west to the USA, driving around 10 different states on an internship. Whilst there she experienced the nightlife of New Orleans, the bright lights of New York and even a visit to Graceland in Memphis. Not long after her return she ventured out to South East Asia, exploring Cambodia, Thailand and Malaysia – highlights of which were riding elephants and the Full Moon party in Kho Pangnan. She's also taken in some of the most idyllic beaches in the world in Sri Lanka.
Having slightly sated her wonderlust she’s had a few years of working in Marketing and Sales, and has settled in Sheffield with her boyfriend of 5 years.
You’d think with all this travel, her taste in food might be rather exotic, but no, Liz is happiest munching on chips and ketchup and salt and vinegar crisps, whilst Ribena, and Guinness (pints only, never halves) are her drinks of choice. She loves watching McNulty (Dominic West) from the US TV series The Wire and the American series ‘Mad Men’. She likes supporting local bands and going to Music Festivals when possible although she is yet to conquer the mighty Glastonbury.
She loves walking in Derbyshire or anywhere with fresh air. To accompany all that walking, she’d really love a dog, and says that her life will not be complete until she has a dog to call “Myown”, oh sorry, that should read a dog to call HER own (!), but she needs to get a house first. |

Anne-Marie joined our Export department in September 2010. Coming from an IT and service background, working for, variously - learn direct, HSBC, a web design agency and a glass company – she’s come back from the Manchester side of the Pennines after 13 years and returned home to Sheffield. She’s now our Export Adminstration Team Leader, dealing with shippers and forwarders, ensuring all orders are entered on and despatched in a timely manner, with the appropriate documentation/paperwork/commercial invoices/certificate of origin etc issued to avoid delays through customs etc. She liaises with the DC to ensure all is co-ordinated and despatched to the client.
A fan of food she loves pasta, pizza, burgers, Chinese AND chips, and has to have them with everything (I think that’ll be the chips!) Conversely (and fortunately for her health) she’s also a fan of the gym, and has been in training recently for a Half Marathon to raise money for the British Heart Foundation. When not running she does “body attack” and “body pump” classes (sounds painful!)
Appropriately for someone in the Export Team, she loves to travel, and has been to New Zealand, Hong Kong, and when she wins the lottery, will be found on a street in Vietnam eating some ‘pho’. Ooh la la! She’s currently studying on a French language course following a recent trip to Paris left her feeling so ignorant she felt inspired to learn. Trés bien!
She’s a bit of a self confessed ‘quirky’ type, and likes to live life to the full – “life’s too short”. Once she had some tropical fish, but keeping such a hectic lifestyle she’s now fostered them out. She has eclectic musical tastes from Chinese music, to dance, to salsa, to r’n’b…..it’s all happening on her iPod! And as a recent convert, she’s totally hooked on the awesome TV show, Dexter.

Laura is no longer the baby of export since Siobhan has joined us. She joined in Feb 2011 as an apprentice to help Anne Marie with export administration. She has now finished her apprenticeship – early!
Little Miss Active, Laura joined GB Eye after leaving Liverpool JM University in January. She went to train as a PE teacher but then had a complete career re-think ….. She never thought she would end up behind a desk! When Laura isn’t working she spends her time dancing and doing Zumba. She absolutely loves to dance!!! She has been dancing for the last 16 years, doing every different style you can think of.
Laura would love to travel the world in a PINK VW camper van (pink being her favourite colour) with the wind in her hair. She was once described as a black haired Barbie doll by her last boss, although Laura will tell you she’s not a girly girl – enjoying sport and fast cars. When she was younger she was regularly under a bonnet with her dad doing up cars. Speaking of which she recently passed her test after … erm … a few attempts, and she now has her own car!!! |

Siobhan joined GB eye in August 2011 to assist Anne Marie in Export Administration. Fortunately, she enjoys making lists and schedules, although she might not stick to them and loves filing too – to the point that she thinks she's just a bit too organised! No bad thing in an admin' role!
Siobhan (pronounced shee-vorn, if you didn't know)has a dog called Tyler who is a little monster but she loves him all the same, even though he demolishes everything! His favourite pastime is making holes in concrete, and jumping up at the washing on the line. Nice work if you can get it.
She loves watching all kinds of films, and could easily sit and watch DVD after DVD, as long as she had enough popcorn and fanta that is! She loves reading the real gory horror stuff .. thrilling.. twisted.. murderous is what she likes! Also a big fan of music, she listens whenever & wherever she can, she doesn’t favour any particular genre of music, but as long as it has a good beat and she can make up her own lyrics, she'll "have it".
She looooves to eat, and if she could go out every night of the week she would! Her favourite food is Chinese – Peking Chicken "nom nom nom".
She’d love to travel more, new places, new people, public transport, it’s all so exciting! She’d love to travel all over the UK, starting with London, Scotland & Wales. Then branch out to Italy and Spain – and somehow get to China from there. Over a few years, natch..
Fortunately, she loves the atmosphere at GB. "Everyone’s really nice and I’m settling in well, I can be very organised and detailed in my role, which is great for me." sez Siobhan. And us, Siobhan, and us!
